13th July 2018

Remember:

Show and tell will continue to be on the following days this term, Tuesday (Reception), Wednesday (Year 1) and Thursday (Year 2). PE will continue to be on a Monday and Friday.

News:

It has been a busy week in class 1. In English this week the children have been enjoying a new animated clip. They have retold the story and have asked questions about the character and what will happen next. The children have had to think really hard about this as the clip has no sound. In computing this week the children have been working with the year 6 children to produce their own animations based on the clip we are studying in English. The children have really enjoyed this and I am looking forward to seeing their completed animations next week. This week in maths we have continued revising multiplication and division. The children are working hard to remember and use the different methods we have previously learnt. Next week we will be using this knowledge to solve mathematical problems.

All home learning books, spelling books and reading books are to be returned on Monday please.

News:

It has been a busy couple of weeks in class 1. In English this week the children have been enjoying ‘Owl Babies’. They have written their own versions of the story and this week we have been making fact pages about owls. The children have found some really interesting facts during their research. In maths we have continued with our revision of the four main maths operations. This week we have started revising multiplication and division. The children are working hard to remember and use the different methods we have previously learnt. In Science we have been exploring our senses and what we use these for. We have also been revising parts of the body and what humans and animals need to survive.

News:

In English this week the children have been enjoying ‘Owl Babies’. They are looking forward to writing their own versions of the story. In maths we are revising addition and subtraction and the children have been working really hard to use their knowledge in problem solving situations. In Science we have continued exploring materials and this week we have been looking at materials that are waterproof. The children have had great fun finding out by doing a science experiment to help prove their theories. We have ended the week with a fantastic ‘Den Day’ where the children worked really hard together as part of a team to build excellent dens on the school field. Thank you to everyone who came along and for everyone’s support in donating money for save the children, donations in materials and also for your time. It really was a great day enjoyed by all.

News:

We have had another great week in class 1. The children have started a new topic in English this week and they were really excited about the animated clip that we are basing our writing on. So far we have been sequencing the story and looking at the language we could use to describe what we have seen. In maths we are revising the maths curriculum and the children have been working on different areas of the curriculum to ensure consolidation. In Science we have continued exploring materials and this week we have been looking at the recycling process and what materials can be recycled.

News:

We have had a great week in class 1. The children have really enjoyed writing their adventure stories after reading ‘Flat Stanley’ and in maths we have been working on our times tables. Over the last couple of weeks the children have really enjoyed finding out about the great explorers. This week they continued their work on Christopher Columbus and have been thinking about what it would have been like on his ship. In science we have continued with our materials topic and the children have been looking at why certain objects are made of some materials and not others.

News:

We have had an exciting week in class 1. At the beginning of the week we had a letter arrive from the sound collector. He wanted us to collect sounds for his poem from around the school. The children have been on a sound hunt to collect sounds from the different areas of the school and they have then used these sounds to write their own sound poems in the style of the sound collector. The children have really enjoyed our English this week. In maths this week we have been really focusing on our reasoning and problem solving skills using their knowledge of addition and subtraction to help them. Our topic is also in full swing and the children have enjoyed learning about Christopher Columbus this week.

News:

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Class 1. The children have enjoyed a trip to the theatre to watch ‘Awful Auntie’. It was a great trip and enjoyed by all. The children wrote a recount in English all about their trip and they have also been enjoying our book ‘Beegu’. We have been writing newspaper articles about a spaceship that crash landed on our school field. In Maths the children have been working on their addition skills and they have started to apply these to different types of maths problems. The year 2 children have been working really hard in the build up to their SATs. During the KS1 SATs this week the children really did try hard, they all have such a great attitude towards the tests and they enjoyed a treat from FOCS after they had finished their last test on Thursday. Well done year 2!

News:

We have had a busy couple of weeks in class 1. In English we have really enjoyed reading ‘The day the crayons quit.’ The children have been writing persuasive letters to the crayons to try to convince them to return. We are now planning our own stories based on the book. In RE we have been reading the parable of ‘the lost son’. The children have been thinking about the value of forgiveness. In Maths we have been exploring multiplication and division. We are all excited and looking forward to our class trip next week!

News:

We have had a busy couple of weeks in class 1. We have continued our topic work by looking at how toys have changed over the years and how modes of transport have developed into the transport we are used to today. In English we have continued to enjoy reading ‘The Wind in the Willows’. The children have written some super descriptions based on the story and a super letter to describe the amazing day that Mole had when he saw a river for the first time and went on a boat trip. In Science we have explored the changing seasons in greater depth and in Maths we have been exploring money. The children have enjoyed using their knowledge of money in our class shop.

News:

Class 1 have had a great start to the term. We have started our topic by looking at past and present maps of Coaley. The children have been looking at how the village has changed and marking where they live on the maps. We have been looking at what school was like in the past and our Victorian experience day was a fantastic day where the children really learnt a lot about school life in the past and how it was very different to their school experiences in the present day. The children really did look great in their costumes and this really contributed to the day so thank you all for your support in this. In maths we have been learning about time and we have also started our new science topic where we have been investigating the seasons.

Show and tell will continue to be on the following days next term, Tuesday (Reception), Wednesday (Year 1) and Thursday (Year 2).

News:

Class 1 have had a busy couple of weeks. We have been working on making our writing more interesting by adding adjectives and different ways to start our sentences. We have enjoyed getting in the festive spirit by looking at ‘T’was the night before Christmas’. The children came up with some great descriptions of St. Nicholas from the poem. In maths the children have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We have looked at the properties of shape including the lines of symmetry. The children have enjoyed bringing a bit of Christmas into our maths work over the last few days with their Christmas themed problem solving activities. In RE the children have been learning about other faiths and what is important to others as well as enjoying and celebrating the Christmas story. The children have also enjoyed decorating gingerbread men, Christmas crafts and IsingPop.

I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. See you all in 2018!

News:

In class 1 this week we have been finishing our narrative writing. I am really looking forward to reading the children’s stories. We have ended the week by starting to look at recounts and what we already know about writing recounts. In maths we have looked back over our addition and subtraction work and we have ended the week starting to look at division. We are already becoming aware of how important our times tables are as we are starting to check our answers using our multiplication knowledge. In our topic work we are continuing to look at castles and life in castles in the past. In DT this week we have been designing our own shield with a special coat of arms.

In class 1 this week we have been looking at punctuation. We have been focusing on capital letters and full stops and how these should be used in our writing. Alongside this we have been working really hard on our cursive handwriting. In maths we have been focusing on our 2 and 5 times tables and in science we have been learning about plants that produce food for us. We have also been learning about the life cycle of a plant.

In class 1 this week we have continued with our diary work based around the book ‘Into the forest’. We have been sharing our work and discussing how we can make it better. We have also been focusing on punctuation this week, looking closely at how we use capital letters, full stops and question marks. We will be looking for this punctuation being used correctly in our work next week. In Science we have continued to observe our bean plants and we have been measuring them to see how much they have grown. In Maths this week we have started working on subtraction and the methods we could use to help us find the correct answer.

News:

In class 1 this week we have been looking at a very interesting book. ‘Into the forest’ is a story about a boy who is going to visit his grandma and on his way he meets some very familiar characters. We have been making lists of all of the fairy tale characters that we recognise. We have also been looking very closely at the pictures in this book as there are some very clever things hidden in them. We have started to write a diary entry from the view point of the little boy about what he saw, who he met and how he felt that day. In maths this week we have been working on our addition facts. The children have also been busy taking part in an outdoor maths challenge morning where they have had the opportunity to apply all of their maths knowledge to solve given problems.

News:

In class 1 this week we have been reading the wolf’s story. The children have been working in teams to decide who is telling the truth, the Wolf or Little Red Riding Hood. Team Wolf and Team Riding Hood have been coming up with some super ideas and they have been working hard to get their argument across. In maths we have started looking at addition by re visiting our number bonds and how these can be used to help us with our addition. In Science this week our bean plants have continued to grow well. We’ve enjoyed measuring them and we are amazed at how much they are growing daily!

Remember:

The children will still be having PE on a Monday and drop in sessions are now on a Monday morning.

News:

We have had a really busy week in class 1 this week! We have been exploring the story of the three little pigs. The children have been using actions to help them to produce a story map, focusing on the beginning, middle and end of the story. We then looked at the alternative tale the three little wolves and the big bad pig. The children will be planning their own alternative tales next week. In maths we have been focusing on number formation and place value. The children have been working hard to form their numbers correctly and to partition numbers into tens and ones.
