Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. There will be no home learning set this week due to assessment week. 

News: In English the children are studying the picture book 'The Lost Happy Endings'. We are beginning to write diary entries based around this book and on Friday the children had lots of fun writing a diary entry from the point of view of an object.

In maths, year 5 have worked hard on finding multiples and factors of numbers. We are now working on answering arithmetic questions using formal written methods as well as reasoning questions.

Year 6 have continued to work hard on uncovering what a question is asking and what is required. We have worked hard on supporting each other in answering questions.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. On Monday we will be sharing our home learning task with each other and celebrating the efforts of the children. Remember home learning is an important part of consolidating learning and gives you an insight into what the children are learning in class. I appreciate all of your support with this.

News: In English the children have been using the book 'Tuesday' By David Wiesner. The children have been studying how news is presented through television. They have thought carefully about how they adapt their performances for different audiences. We have also been collecting language which we could use in our news reports. On Friday the children were excited to present their news reports and even dressed up!

In maths, year 5 have been finding multiples and factors of whole numbers. They have also been solving problems and explaining their reasons for their answers. Year 6 have been working hard on answering reasoning questions based on a wide range of mathematical concepts.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. On Monday we will be sharing our home learning task with each other and celebrating the efforts of the children. Remember home learning is an important part of consolidating learning and gives you an insight into what the children are learning in class. I appreciate all of your support with this.

News: Over the past two weeks class 3 have enjoyed continuing to learn more about our topic - World War 2.

In English we have been considering alternative endings to our book 'How to Live Forever.' The children have been working on describing characters and settings. We have also been using relative phrases, adverbials and fronted adverbials in our writing.  

In maths year 5 have moved onto work involving decimals. They have been ordering, comparing and rounding decimal numbers with up to 3 places.

Year 6 have been working hard on calculations of fractions. Including the challenge of using BIDMAS to solve given sums.

The children were really excited by our Evacuee day on Friday.

Here are some of their thoughts about the day:

It was fun when we made biscuits. (Martha)

I liked it when Mr Clark came in to tell us about what it was like to be an evacuee. (Lewis)

I enjoyed dressing up - it was lots of fun! (Olivia)

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. On Monday we will be sharing our home learning task with each other and celebrating the efforts of the children. Remember home learning is an important part of consolidating learning and gives you an insight into what the children are learning in class. I appreciate all of your support with this.

News: This week the children have been learning how to multiply fractions. They have been very successful with this and have been able to problem solve and reason using their new knowledge. 

In English we have begun studying our books 'How to Live Forever' by Colin Thompson. The children have enjoyed listening to the story and studying the pictures. From this we have wrote book reviews and worked on writing a descriptive piece based on one of the pictures.

In guided reading we have been reading and exploring our class novel 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll. The children have been predicting what is going too happen next and answering questions to demonstrate their understanding of what we have read so far.

In topic we have been looking at the early part of the war years and the events which lead up to the outbreak of World War 2.

In computing we have begun our scratch projects. We will be creating games which we look forward to sharing with you once they are finished.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. Please ensure home learning tasks are in on time so that they can be marked and returned to the children by Tuesday. Remember home learning is an important part of consolidating learning and gives you an insight into what the children are learning in class. I appreciate all of your support with this.

News: This week the children have been writing narratives based on the Waitrose advert 'Coming Home' and the story 'Coming Home' by Michael Morpurgo. We have been learning about how to include emotive language, pathetic fallacy and expressing the internal thought of a character.

In Maths we have continued to work on adding and subtracting fractions. The children have been consolidating their knowledge of these concepts and applying them to problem solving and reasoning tasks.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due on Monday. It is really important that these are on time as we need the information for next weeks English learning.

News: This week the children have begun learning about biographies. We have looked carefully at their structure, the language used and learnt some off by heart to support us in our writing. We have now begun collecting information about Tutankhamen ready to write a biography of his life. In maths we have been learning all about line graphs, we have been working on drawing them accurately and answering questions about them. Year 6 have moved onto constructing pie charts.  

In science we have been learning about insulators and conductors. In our experiment this week we tested different materials to see which made the best insulator to keep our ice cream cold for the longest period of time. Year 5 then used this information to present their data in a line graph during maths.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due in on Monday.

News: This week the children have been working on written methods of division. We have then used this to solve word problems involving multiplication and division. In English the children have begun planning their own versions of the narrative poem 'The Highwayman.' They are full of brilliant ideas for their poem and I look forward to seeing their amazing writing next week. On Tuesday we looked at our mummified tomatoes. Although a bit smelly, the children could notice how they had changed over the 2 weeks in appearance as well as becoming significantly lighter in weight.

Home learning: Home learning tasks are due in on Monday.

News: This week the children have been multiplying and dividing both whole numbers and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. Additionally, we have been using formal written methods for addition and subtraction to solve word problems and solve reasoning questions. In English we have been writing newspaper articles based on the events of the narrative poem 'The Highwayman.' We have also begun publishing these so that we can make a class newspaper to showcase all the children's efforts. In topic we enjoyed mummifying tomatoes. First we made an incision and took out the seeds, next we cleaned the tomato using alcohol (Hand sanitizer), we then used salt and bicarbonate of soda to stuff our tomatoes and finally we put them in a draw filled with salt. We now have to patiently wait 2 weeks to see our results.

News: This week the year 5 children have been learning about ordering and comparing numbers and counting forwards and backwards in powers of ten. Year 6 have been learning to round whole and decimal numbers and solve word problems involving negative numbers. In English we are continuing to study our class book 'The Highwayman.' We have been working on adding description to our writing and including dialogue. The children have enjoyed rewriting it from the point of view of one of the characters.
