News: This week the children have been working on written methods of division. We have then used this to solve word problems involving multiplication and division. In English the children have begun planning their own versions of the narrative poem 'The Highwayman.' They are full of brilliant ideas for their poem and I look forward to seeing their amazing writing next week. On Tuesday we looked at our mummified tomatoes. Although a bit smelly, the children could notice how they had changed over the 2 weeks in appearance as well as becoming significantly lighter in weight.

News: This week the children have been multiplying and dividing both whole numbers and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. Additionally, we have been using formal written methods for addition and subtraction to solve word problems and solve reasoning questions. In English we have been writing newspaper articles based on the events of the narrative poem 'The Highwayman.' We have also begun publishing these so that we can make a class newspaper to showcase all the children's efforts. In topic we enjoyed mummifying tomatoes. First we made an incision and took out the seeds, next we cleaned the tomato using alcohol (Hand sanitizer), we then used salt and bicarbonate of soda to stuff our tomatoes and finally we put them in a draw filled with salt. We now have to patiently wait 2 weeks to see our results.

News: This week the year 5 children have been learning about ordering and comparing numbers and counting forwards and backwards in powers of ten. Year 6 have been learning to round whole and decimal numbers and solve word problems involving negative numbers. In English we are continuing to study our class book 'The Highwayman.' We have been working on adding description to our writing and including dialogue. The children have enjoyed rewriting it from the point of view of one of the characters.
